About the Role:
The Grocery Director is responsible for the strategic development, implementation, execution and tracking of the joint business plan between Walmart/Sam’s and the clients.
The Grocery Director will lead a Sales Analyst and a Customer Logistics Analyst. You will be expected to continually identify sales opportunities through the effective analysis of sales data, competition, and industry trends. It will be your responsibility to ensure client’s see sustainable growth at Walmart and Sam’s Club. You will be responsible for developing fact-based presentations and have the proven ability to contact new buyers and secure appointments to expand the client footprint at Walmart/Sam’s in the appropriate areas.
You will be required to effectively collaborate with and lead a multi-function organization to achieve agreed to targets, as well as lead in the identification of gaps to budget and corresponding gap closing plans. You will be the “go to” person for the clients assigned and will lead the weekly sales review calls, coordinate appropriate supplier meetings with Walmart/Sam’s, and schedule quarterly business reviews to develop as much as possible an on-going business planning process.
Responsibilities:
- Developing a plan and strategy to maximize presence of supplier’s products at Walmart/Sam’s
- Developing agreed to Joint Business Plans with the key suppliers to create business growth
- Tracks agreed to suppliers Joint Business Plans on a weekly and quarterly basis. Develop and implement GAP plans as necessary to stay on track.
- Maintain an Action Register for key suppliers and a minimum of once per week call to continue to review business results and opportunities.
- Identify all appropriate merchandising contacts and departments available to maximize the sale and distribution of supplier’s products.
- Actively schedule appointments with appropriate merchandising personnel to present items, promotions, and business results.
- Leverage sales, analytical, logistics and operations data to effectively identify and sell-in incremental business opportunities and drive consumption.
- Ensure all Key Performance Indicators are in line with supplier and Walmart expectations and deliver the most effective business by minimizing days on hand, product returns, and maximizing promotion sell-through.
- Spend time in the field to validate retail execution and identify new opportunities via store checks on Walmart/Sam’s and its key competitors.
Qualifications:
- Education: BA/BS desired, preferably in Marketing, Business, or Finance
- 3-5+ years of proven experience selling to Walmart/Sam’s in grocery categories
- Highly entrepreneurial and passionate about business
- Proactive and knowledgeable about the categories and products being presented
- Strong initiative and follow-through skills
- Proven ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and to do so exceedingly well
- Excels in the ability to develop selling presentations to support customer appointments
- Proven experience in penetrating and selling new buyers and departments
- Self-directed and highly motivated
- Detail oriented & able to work in a fast-paced competitive environment
- Strong organization, communication, math, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Proficient computer skills and strong technical skills including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, and Scintilla
- Strong financial acumen
Salary and Benefits:
- Base Salary: $140,000 – 160,000
- 25% Annual Bonus Potential
